The "8" in this tube looks very similar to auxiliary anodes used in
National Electronics tubes; I think this tube was purely designed to
display an "L", which is still very odd. Seems reasonably common in +/-
tubes, like the NL-5016, NL-5992, NL-811, NL-843, and NL-847.
Interestingly, I could not find any examples of Burroughs tubes, even
analogous ones, that include this auxiliary anode. It's also interesting
that it isn't internally connected.

The B-6037 is very interesting to me!   This is because I have done 
extensive experimentation along the lines of making various hexadecimal 
readout systems
using nixie tubes.   In my experiments, each HEX "digit" needed (2) regular 
0-9 style tubes.   The tubes would display 00 through 09, and then 10 
through 15.

I note that there is a Thompson TAF1267A nixie that only displays 0,1 and 2 
- which is almost as weird though I can see a use as a leading digit for a 
clock that shows nothing other than the time and the date!
