\setupfloatsplitting[conversion=Contd]
This results in "Table 1 My Long table", "Table 1 (cont’d) My Long table" and
so on.
There is already a conversion for this numbering style.

Dear all,
I would like to have in my document floats, i.c. musical examples, that
basically have the same number, for example, Ex. 3a and Ex. 3b, with text in
between and possibly not even on the same page.
It seems that it can be done (Wiki-page Command/setupfloatsplitting) but I have

Remove the setting for “suffix” because it hold the number for the subtable,
the number itself can be changed with
\setupfloatsplitting[conversion=…]
and a separator between the float number and the suffix can be added with
\setupcaption[suffixseparator=…].

Maybe a predefined conversion for this wouldn’t be too bad but we need then a
better variant like this:
\def\continued#1%

\setupfloatsplitting[conversion=continued]

Ideas on how I would enable it to be used inside miktex would be very very
helpful.
I need to use this clever trick by Hans:

to solve this by using \setupfloatsplitting[conversions=...]
but even if I defined a conversion that prints nothing, the caption
would look like Program Segment 1.1. (the final separator is still
printed).
Hi William,
use
\setupfloatsplitting[conversions=numbers]
and
\setupcaptions[way=bytext
() {
...on next page...
Program Segment 1.1: (continued)
printf(hello world!\n);
}
Thanks to Wolfgang's help the splitting problem is solved. However,
after the float is split, the captions get extra numbers (1.1.A,
1.1.B, etc).
I tried to solve this by using \setupfloatsplitting[conversions
