Did some birding in southern Erie County hoping to find the Wood Stork seen
by Mary-Ann Ingrao w/o any luck (it had been seen yesterday and Tuesday, if
I understand correctly).
That being said, the day was still productive. I had *1 each* of

*and* Black-billed Cuckoos* (YB at
Today I had* 9 Black Vultures* in Lewiston - 7 at Lewiston Landing (the
boat launch at the foot of Center St), 1 on the cel tower and 1 on the roof
of St Peter's RC Church. The birds near the river were in the company of 1
Red-tailed Hawk and 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk. I had only 3 Turkey Vultures,

I had a Common Tern foraging on the Niagara River on the east side of
Beaver Island SP late Friday afternoon. The best views that I had were from
the small half-circle spit of land that surrounds dock at that end of the
park.
Yesterday I had 1 Snow Bunting, 4 Sanderlings and 1 Spotted Sandpiper on
the Bird Island Pier in Buffalo. Today there were 5 Sanderlings, the
Spotted Sandpiper, but no bunting.
There were relatively few duck and gulls either day.

Yesterday I was able to get to Times Beach and Tifft for a bit, highlights
included:
*American Bittern*: *1* at Times Beach initially seen by Josh Ketry a
couple days back and *2* at Tifft. I miss this bird some years, I was
surprised to have 3 in 1 day!

I had no luck with either the Slaty-backed Gull or Mew Gull today in the
Oswego area (best gull for me was a 1st winter Iceland Gull - on the river
near lock 6).
At Oswego Harbor Kyle Brock scoped 1 bird on the break wall to the east,
and a woman who's name I can't recall had spotted another on
I had a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron at Woodlawn Beach SP today.
Strangely only 2 Mallards and a handful of gulls were present.

I was able to see the Eurasian Wigeon reported yesterday by Peter Yeorg at
North Feeder Marsh, Tonawanda WMA, in Alabama, NY. The bird was associating
with 2 dozen American Wigeon. It was identifiable without a scope, however
a scope would be helpful. I was told these birds left just before 5:00
I had a Shrike as well as an American Kestrel at the Union Ship Canal near
the Certainteed building in South Buffalo about 20 minutes ago. Prior to
that I had a Northern Mockingbird, American Kestrel and Snowy Owl at the
Seaway Slip on Furhman Blvd. The owl was out on the break wall.

I had a Black-legged Kittiwake at Unity Island this afternoon. This was the
first time I had a kittiwake in adult plumage. There are very poor photos
on eBird.
Mike G with Pat M and Kyle B found a very close Little Gull (and I believe
a second across the River in Fort Erie). Kevin Rybczynski’s
I saw *1 Forester's Tern* yesterday at LaSalle Park - the bird was in the
company of 1 Common Tern. I understand that other's saw 2 of this species
at Hamburg Town Park about 10 miles south of Buffalo yesterday as well.

the Trumpeter Swan and any other birds (reported by Sue Barth and others).
I was able to see the Trumpeter Swan and Tundra Swan (thanks again Kevin
Rybczynski for letting me know they were feeding in stubble across the

through the window. A pleasant and unexpected surprise. It may be worth
checking out nearby areas: Unity Island, The Ontario St Boat Launch and

Birds seen included:
2 Mourning Warblers, 1 Canada Warbler, 1 Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, 1
Gray-cheeked Thrush and 1 Swainson's Thrush.
I believe Kevin Rybczynski and several others also caught up with these
birds earlier in the day. There
This evening I was tending to a stunned Ovenbird when I had a Fish Crow in
the company of American Crows fly over my yard - an unexpected surprise!
The Ovenbird appeared to recover, and eventually flew off after 20 minutes
or so. The whole lot of crows flew off towards downtown, with several birds

I took a walk to Tifft on Tuesday 3-24-20 and had Virginia Rail off Old
Tifft St (reported previously by P. Corrigan). Also in that area was at
least 1 Rusty Blackbird (although it was possible there may have been more).
The Mute Swan previously reported by A. Nowicki was also present, along
Today (4-26) I had 23 Fox Sparrows at Forest Lawn - far and away the
largest number of this species I've seen, although have been seeing many so
far this spring. Also present in smaller numbers were White-throated,
Chipping, Song and Field, and some other migrants.
While leaving Wegmans (Amherst St - Blackrock) this evening just after
10:00 pm, I had a Common Nighthawk calling. There may have been an
additional bird or two, but I could not see the birds due to the
floodlights in the lot. A nice and unexpected treat!

I had a little bit of time today and headed to the Falls to see if I could
catch up with the Slaty-backed Gull and Harlequin Duck - no luck. Of the
more interesting gulls, I had 5 Iceland Gulls (4 Kumlien's and 1 Thayer's),
5 Lesser Black-backed and 1 Glaucous Gull.
People were present and

Woodcock at Red Jacket Riverfront Park in Buffalo on Wednesday. Birds bite
scattered throughout the park, calling and making their twittering flight
sounds. I don’t know that I have heard so many in one small spot since I

Sue Barth along the creek behind the chapel. It put on a good show for me
and several others present! I understand that it subsequently headed back
towards Mirror Lake where it was originally found.

Buffalo. The bird was moving about a bit - during the time I was there it
was anywhere from ground level to about 40'. Others who were able to view
