It should be easy to create several small apps (if it's really only to host
an image file) for free on Google App Engine, Heroku, OpenShift, etc.

Maybe, at the minimum, write some instructions on how to bookmark the image
URL on a smartphone?
http://www.howtogeek.com/196087/how-to-add-websites-to-the-home-screen-on-any-smartphone-or-tablet/

Also, to make it easy to type the image URL on a smartphone, we should
create a short URL for it (and most URL shortener services conveniently
provide a QR code, so you don't have to type anything anymore).

Re: [plug] auto-display of a jpeg file behind a php script

2015-04-17 Thread Roberto Verzola
Danny, our early graphs assumed a hypothetically low supply for
illustrative purposes to simulate a brownout situation. But since Apr 13
or 14, we been using the actual available capacity as announced at
ngcp.ph. So far, the supply has hovered around 1,000 MW above demand.

By the way, (to make this on topic, hehe) we still need more websites
to mirror the jpeg file available on Danny Ching's server, to prepare
for the heavy load, once supply tightens.

Also we need an app that in a single click on an icon can download and
display the file to a smartphone.

2015-04-17 Thread Roberto Verzola
That's true, last year pa yung warnings. But if consumers can see the
supply/demand graph themselves, that's much better than warnings. We
can all see and decide for ourselves, when and for how long to switch
off non-essential loads, and we can also see right away (nobody else
needs to tell us) if we are making a difference or not. I think it is
this immediate feedback that will get people to participate, once the
brownouts start. I call this high-tech bayanihan. We are doing it in
the open-source (open data?) spirit.

Thanks for the info Holden. If there's a Mindanao-based person/group on
this list, we can work with them. One potential problem is data,
because Mindanao has no spot market yet. Where do we get the Mindanao

Re: [plug] auto-display of a jpeg file behind a php script

2015-04-14 Thread Roberto Verzola
For those who want to mirror the chart, here are a few details:
- the chart is just a jpeg file
- the chart is updated hourly, usually between 10-15 mins after the
  hour.
- Allowing for the generation and transfer of the jpg file to
Danny's website, 15 mins after each hour would be a good time to try
  downloading it.
- the demand for the file is very light now. But if/when brownouts
start, expect heavier traffic. That's why we need more mirrors in
  anticipation of this.

Re: [plug] auto-display of a jpeg file behind a php script

2015-04-13 Thread Holden Hao
How about extending the python script to post to Twitter whenever the
source URL changes data? This way people can just follow the account. I
know there is a Python library for Twitter. It would be best also if the
python script creates the image and posts an image instead. I would like
to do this but I have limited time and I know there are more capable people
on this list. Also, why not upload the code to github so people can fork
and extend it.

2015-04-13 Thread Danny Ching
I'll also setup a webpage so that anyone who wants to mirror the files
won't need owncloud.
