Re: Board report due on 9/4
This is fantastic, glad to see people stepping up to help this project. It will also be nice to collect and record the usage of S4 in a PoweredBy wiki page. Frankly I think the biggest problem with S4 is marketing. I haven't seen many talks/presentations/meetups on S4. These help a lot in increasing the visibility of project and getting new contributors and community. I would certainly be willing to participate. thanks, Kishore G On Wed, Sep 4, 2013 at 9:06 AM, Matthieu Morel wrote: > Done, > > thanks! > > Matthieu > > > On Sep 4, 2013, at 17:57 , Oleg Tikhonov wrote: > > > Guys, > > For me the page is immutable. Awesome that you're offering to do it, Oleg. I'm not sure it will be possible this time, but adding the number of people subscribed to the project lists would be great. Reporting the number of liras created, resolved, etc. is typically a good thing to do, but this time I'm not sure it will be meaningful given the low traffic of the list. Re: Board report due on 9/4
Hi Flavio, You are totally right. In matter of fact, I tried to contribute a while back, but there are no issues or at least obvious ones that an outsider like me could easily pick up. So let's start with some new JIRAS opened, then we can start contributing to S4, which will led to new committers and releases. About the production case, yeah that is a difficult one for sure. Over in Apache Gora our main use case is Apache Nutch as we provide a pluggable architecture for NoSQL data stores, and of course we want to grow separately from Nutch and have our own success cases. After a couple of years working in the Gora Community we have started to get some traction, a couple of talks on Industry, and Academia have helped us for sure. Now it is used as an integration platform, benchmark platform as well, and we are trying to get it to some other projects too. So maybe a possibility for S4 would be to get it integrated with other Apache projects (integration with Apache Gora maybe? or some integration with web services?) So if project committers could work on a list of some easy JIRA issues that newcomers could do, then maybe we could start moving this forward. Of course, making S4 successful will not be an easy task, nor a fast one, but if we want to push it forward, I think there is a path we could follow (: Renato M. 2013/8/30 FPJ > I'm very happy to hear all this positive feedback and support, but I think > that we need to get more than just a handful of +1's going. RE: Board report due on 9/4
I'm very happy to hear all this positive feedback and support, but I think that we need to get more than just a handful of +1's going. We need to get patches going, new committers, new releases, etc. We are also missing a successful production use case, which apparently is not needed for graduation, but I would think it is quite important for a successful apache project. If we start getting contributions in the form of patches, discussions, documentation, then we might be able to keep it going. Otherwise, I don't think we can have an apache project without a community. -Flavio > -Original Message- > From: Kurtt Lin [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: 30 August 2013 13:23 > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: Board report due on 9/4 > > Hi Flavio, > > I am also a +1 to keep this project going. > I am currently working on a new active-standby feature for S4, and I would > also like to contribute to the elasticity feature on the list. > > > On Fri, Aug 30, 2013 at 6:29 AM, Renato Marroquín Mogrovejo < > [email protected]> wrote: > > > Hi all, > > > > I don't have that much time now, but I also think that this is an > > awesome project, and I'd like to put some time onto this on the future. > > If you need some help, I can chip in as well. Re: Board report due on 9/4
Hi all, I don't have that much time now, but I also think that this is an awesome project, and I'd like to put some time onto this on the future. If you need some help, I can chip in as well. That being said, I am a +1 to keep this one going. Renato M. 2013/8/29 Flavio Junqueira > Hi Oleg, > > Thanks for the feedback. Re: Board report due on 9/4
Hi Oleg, Thanks for the feedback. I don't like myself the idea of shutting down the project for the reasons you stated. However, we haven't been able to attract a good number of contributors to keep the project going. We have a roadmap on the project wiki: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/S4/Roadmap but I'm not seeing enough motivation to get it going further than 0.6. If you're really eager to get it going, perhaps you could try to drive the work for the next release? I'm sure you can get some help from folks in this list. -Flavio On Aug 29, 2013, at 9:23 PM, Oleg Tikhonov wrote: > I'm just "outsider" ... > I think that stream processing is a hot topic. Re: Board report due on 9/4
I'm just "outsider" ... I think that stream processing is a hot topic. Don't know alternatives with Apache license. Agree that a synergy here could be better. Also see a business value to keep this project going. You know the problems here much better than me. I would like to contribute to the project somehow, however I don't know what to do. Could not find the roadmap, some goals, a wish list. So, if my opinion matters, here is my +1 to keep going. RE: Board report due on 9/4
I'm not seeing much development traffic on this list and we have been asked a couple of times now about graduation. It doesn't look like we have been able to get enough traction and in fact traffic has been dropping continuously over the time. I don't see a reason for pursuing this project any further, but if there is anyone here with a different opinion, please speak up!
