We're also going to have to cancel this one. School and work have
overwhelmed all three of us for the past month, so we're adjusting and
scaling back to make sure the release will still come out (if nothing
else, the packages will be updated and an image will be produced). If
folks would like to step up and help with package maintenance,
especially of Activities, it would ease the burden quite a bit - the
package list is at

Short version: No meeting tomorrow.

Longer version:

Sebastian just pinged me and he and I are both hosed, so in the
absence of a quorum, we're going to cancel the meeting. Folks are more
than welcome (in fact, encouraged!) to gather and hack on SoaS in our
absence - if there's anything we're doing that's blocking you from
doing what you'd like to do with SoaS, please let this list know so
that we can mutually unblock each other.

I know that life has personally been incredibly hectic for me lately
and I've been having trouble keeping up with SoaS; sometime in the
next 2 weeks (likely around September 20th) I'll be putting aside a
good chunk of time to reassess my personal availability and bandwidth,
and may need to call for a great deal of help around then. I can't
speak for the other members of the release team, but it seems to me
that all of us have been hit with a lot of non-SL work around the same
time, so it may be time to step back, take a breather, and look at
what we realistically are going to be able to do.

Questions, comments, etc welcome, as usual. I'm not as quick on
list-reading and email responses as usual at the moment, but I'll try
to respond to anything that's sent with this email in Cc in the next
few days on the assumption that it's urgent business that only a
release team member (myself, Peter, Sebastian) can take care of.

We're looking to have an option added to the liveusb-creator to select
an option "Use entire stick for image" (or something similar) which
would then get rid of the sqashfs all together and install the ext3
partition straight to the usb stick so there's no issues with corrupt
overlays and other related issues as it will be a plain filesystem
straight onto a usb stick so there'll be no weird fu in between.

Yes, I imagine that if all free space were allocated to the home.img file
and a new, larger squashfs.img needed to fit on the disc, it would fail.

Excuse my ignorance, but if the size of the image changes
dramatically, are there any issues regarding how space may have been
allocated?

home folder is not a write-once, ever-diminishing storage space.

For consistency and stability reasons, the school may want to leave out the
persistent OS overlay (using a temporary overlay on each boot) and just use
the persistent /home/ directories to save the Learners' Journals and
settings.

If a school-wide system change were desired, the Sticks could be upgraded
with a simple exchange of the /LiveOS/squashfs.img file in the base file
system of each device or stick, perhaps, even triggered by the School
Server.

I met up with mtd in the last week so I'm now up to speed and we're on
the same page there. I can help out as much as possible. I've been
hoping to hash out and  test an initial bash script with the core
requirements/steps in it but I moved house at the beginning of the
month and don't have proper Broadband yet to deal with downloads so
this has been somewhat delayed.

In short, we're on our own wrt liveusb-creator hacking between now and
Alpha freeze, and really need a willing hacker to spec out - say, a
3-4 hour code dive in the next few days, and take the notes in that
ticket and perhaps pbrobinson and bernie and mtd in an IRC channel -
and jump in, ask questions, spec things out, hack, see what's
possible, how far they can get, what needs to happen to get the rest
of the way. We need a Python coder with some operating system
knowledge, I think, to just do this - I know I can't.
