We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- [i945gme] Xorg crashes repeatedly on a netbook (Intel video): [mi] EQ overflowing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507813 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507813] Re: [i945gme] Xorg crashes repeatedly on a netbook (Intel video): [mi] EQ overflowing
This is indeed a freeze, not a crash. It's a weird situation where you get a backtrace so it *looks* like a crash, but the crash is a secondary effect that is caused by the system being frozen, if that makes sense. To answer your earlier question, yes with freeze bugs you do need GPU dumps in order to make a proper defect report. /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state is needed as well - refer to the freeze troubleshooting docs for full directions. ** Summary changed: - [i945] [i945gme] Xorg crashes repeatedly on a netbook (Intel video): [mi] EQ overflowing + [i945gme] Xorg crashes repeatedly on a netbook (Intel video): [mi] EQ overflowing ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- [i945gme] Xorg crashes repeatedly on a netbook (Intel video): [mi] EQ overflowing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507813 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507813] Re: [i945gme] Xorg crashes repeatedly on a netbook (Intel video): [mi] EQ overflowing
I've been seeing this a lot less recently, but it just happened again. I now have: - kernel 2.6.32-13-generic #18-Ubuntu SMP - xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.3.902-1ubuntu12 - xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-1ubuntu4 This time the mouse didn't work either. Alt-SysRq-K did return me to GDM. The traceback was: [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507813] Re: [i945gme] Xorg crashes repeatedly on a netbook (Intel video): [mi] EQ overflowing
In a Fedora bug [1], the use of intel-gpu-tools to collect a ring/batch- buffer dump was suggested when this crash occurs. That package seems to be installed by default on Lucid. Would it make sense to SSH in and attach the output of sudo intel_gpu_dump the next time this happens? -- [i945gme] Xorg crashes repeatedly on a netbook (Intel video): [mi] EQ overflowing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507813 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507813] Re: [i945gme] Xorg crashes repeatedly on a netbook (Intel video): [mi] EQ overflowing
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg I had left my Dell Mini 9 open and switched on, and when I returned to it several hours later: - the mouse moved - no response to clicks - no response to typing - screen ok, no corruption - no Caps Lock blinking - no suspend/resume done after last power-up - I had Firefox, emacs-snapshot and the Gnome Terminal open. I killed X with Alt-SysRq-K. The log for the crashed session is in Xorg.0.log.old. I have connected a 1280x1024 LCD panel to the VGA connector and my desktop is extended there. I have disabled desktop effects. This is the first time I see this lock-up although I've left the netbook idle for several times during the two weeks I've been using Lucid. It seems that libdrm-intel and xorg (but not xserver-org-video-intel) got updated three days ago. I can't think of any other recent significant changes to the system. I have gnome-do running. The screensaver is set to empty screen in 5 minutes. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507813] Re: [i945gme] Xorg crashes repeatedly on a netbook (Intel video): [mi] EQ overflowing
Two days ago I got the following updates - xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.3.902-1ubuntu9 - kernel 2.6.32-11-generic #15-Ubuntu SMP Xorg still crashed today. I returned to the netbook after it had been idle for a couple of hours. I hit Fn-8 to disable the secondary display. The netbook screen flashed when I hit the key kombination for a few times. The mouse was still moving, but then the keyboard stopped responding at all. Had to power down the computer.
