Jeff Dike usually does so to workaround gdb problems (breakpoints not working) I'm re-reading your email now and I'm dubious - I often see that breakpoints work up to a certain point. I.e. I set a breakpoint, start UML, it works up to a certain point, afterwards it doesn't any more, until I restop it (I use SIGINT but I now understand it's the same thing).
