This is not an xmail server specific problem but I have also been experiencing
the same issue. I have tried to also setup DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail)
but that does not seem to have helped solve the problem.

If you have root access to the server why not just edit the mailusers.tab
file?
That file will be located in:
/var/MailRoot/
Normally, and find the line that looks a like this:
mydomain.comTABusernameTAB0401080c0bTAB7TABusernamedirectoryTABUNEWLINE

I have been using xmailserver for quite a long time I have only one server
running but I am familiar with the code and would like to see a stronger
community behind the project. There is a copy of v1.26 and some changes that
someone cloned to Github:
