Barry,

Can you be a bit more specific ?
What exactly are you trying to accomplish ?
From what you're saying, I am thinking that you
want to change the password for the XMail _Superuser_
(i.e. the administrator, the user that changes/alters
stuff on XMail from the 6017 command line).

Positive I mean to me it makes no sense. My environment is as follows

2 Virtual machines

Windows XP machine - IP address 10.1.1.17 (fresh install, outlook
thunderbird mail clients, no AV, no firewall)

Gentoo Machine - IP address 10.1.1.200

A port scan of the Gentoo machine reveals ports 110, 25, 53 open but no 6017

Both machines can ping each other. I have full root access for both machines

I can telnet to port 110 and 25, haven't tried any commands for the POP3 as
I don't know hot to ask the server via telnet to authenticate users etc.

copy paste an encrypted password that I remembered to the one I was trying to
set, then restart xmail.

Seems like I did something like that in the past.

It talks to XMail through TCP PORT 6017 which is where XMail listen for its

You could also telnet localhost 6017

Then type root[ TAB]yourpassword[enter] Then type

Then you have to change the string inside the file ctrlaccounts.tab

Use XMCrypt to generate a new password: (in bin/ folder)

mail# ./XMCrypt test

Replace the generated string in file ctrlaccounts.tab

root[TAB]11001611[ENTER]

There is a file under :

/var/MailRoot

called ctrl.ipmap.tab
Inside this file, you should have something like the following :

0.0.0.0       0.0.0.0       DENY  1
127.0.0.1     255.255.255.255       ALLOW 2
192.168.18.0  255.255.255.0 ALLOW 3
10.0.10.0     255.255.255..0 ALLOW 4

first line denies everyone
second line allows localhost to connect to port 6017
third line allows subnet 192.168.18.0/24 to connect to port 6017
fourth line allows subnet 10.0.10.0/24 to connect to port 6017

If you have a network, say, 192..168.10.0/24,

the ctrl.ipmap.tab file should look something like
this :

0.0.0.0       0.0.0.0       DENY 1
127.0.0.1     255.255.255.255       ALLOW 2
192.168.10.0  255.255.255.0 ALLOW 3

Make sure that between sentences, you press the
TAB button and not the SPACE button.

The above will deny everything from any machine and
then explicitly allow localhost (127.0.0.1) and
the 192.168.10.0/24 subnet

Re: [xmail] User password

2013-03-08 Thread Ben Green
Hello Barry,

If you have root access to the server why not just edit the mailusers.tab
file?

That file will be located in:

/var/MailRoot/

Normally, and find the line that looks a like this:

mydomain.comTABusernameTAB0401080c0bTAB7TABusernamedirectoryTABUNEWLINE

The 0401080c0b password is admin in plain text ;-)

Once you have done that you may need to restart xmail server... this should do
it:

/etc/init.d/xmail restart

Hope that helps :-)

Benjamin.
