Hello Thilo, i have set JAVA_HOME to the JRE directory now. this is the output: caspar:/opt/james-2.3.2/bin# sh phoenix.sh start Using PHOENIX_HOME: /opt/james-2.3.2 Using PHOENIX_TMPDIR: /opt/james-2.3.2/temp Using JAVA_HOME: /home/caspar/jre1.6.0_18 Starting Phoenix: nohup: redirecting stderr to stdout Phoenix running pid=1939

It should point to the JRE directory, not the bin subdirectory.
