I have a P1 266, 64MB RAM Win 98 that does packs in 44 hours average. This is THE slowest machine you will ever run across and it only takes 44 hours (on average). Some packs that over 100 hours and some take < 44, but it all works out to 44. Also, I have a P3 600, 256MB Win2k that takes <10 average. All of my machines use SETI Driver for caching and SETI Spy for running the command line version. If you are hitting enormous hours per unit I would look to see if someone snuck another distributed app on your computer. Where I work a guy will slip folding@home on people's computers to run after hours. Dual distributed programs will definitely kill performance. It used to run win 95 and was clocked just over 1000 and averaged just over 7 hours, 7:09 was the last average for it, so it likes the older OS better... where as the K6 series seemed to like Win 2K or NT better.
