I am admittedly not all that familiar with the system requirements of the various varieties of UNIX and UNIX clones, but I think it's safe to say that the Linux meant for installation on a 486 is your best bet. Newer implementations of UNIX would require more RAM and hard disk space than that system has, and older ones would be difficult to find and probably costly, whereas Linux is probably free or close to free.
