i know my simple question has spawned new and more indepth questions
but i thank everyone for thier input and i will try running at low priority and 
i will get a bigger and better heatsink when the puter show comes to town

and not to worry
after i break this baby in for a month i will be overclocking it
friend of mine got his up to 17xxMHz with air cooling and some mods to the cpu

and my own imput on the os debate
i didnt like w2k or xp when i first tried them
but after i got over the initial shock of everything being different
and learning how the new os worked
i like them just fine

but i also seem to remember the same things being said about win95 when it came 
out
people didnt much care for it either because it was so different from win3.1

but now if those same people were to go back to 3.1
they wouldnt know how to do a damn thing
