Hi all,As I mentioned in my last email, I am doing a bunch of much needed maintenance on the front end of my 1990 Daytona Shelby VNT with 200K miles. One item I want to fix is a leaking power steering gear. This has been leaking for a couple years or so, but it's been cheaper to keep putting power steering fluid in than to fix this one small problem. Well, since everything else is apart up front, I dropped the cross member and gear and am going to take care of the problem as well. The leak is coming from the top of the gear right under the U-joints (see image at http://www.smallfield.org/Daytona/SteeringGear.JPG). Is this something I can or would want to fix, or should I replace the whole steering rack? If I replace it, should I be looking for a stock one, or is there something better out there? The car is used as a daily driver to/from work, but I do tend to have fun when driving it. I have been happy with the feel and amount of effort out of the stock steering, so I'm hesitant to change unless there's something obviously better. My first choice is to fix the one I have if that's reasonable or even possible.
later...
