VNA Mar 16 Vietnam protests US cities' decision on former Saigon regime flag Vietnam has asked the US central government to revoke decisions made by Westminster and Garden Grove cities, California, that allow the former Saigon puppet regime's flag to fly at public places. The demand was made by the Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Phan Thuy Thanh on March 14 in response to VNA and AFP correspondent's question about the government's reaction to the issue. Ms Thanh stressed that the gold-starred and red flag is the sole symbol of the independent and unified Vietnamese State, which has been recognised and respected by the international community. The US government itself officially recognised the red background flag with a five-pointed gold star of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on July 12, 1995, she said. She called decisions of the two California cities as a wrong-doing that hurts the Vietnamese people's self-respect and runs counter to the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States, violating the US Constitution and federal law. "Vietnam demands the US government take due action to revoke the above-mentioned erroneous decisions and prevent similar incidents elsewhere within the US territory," Ms Thanh concluded.
