Hello,
I have been using the speedtouch package first compiled and
installed by myself and lately through Mandrake 8.2's packaging of it.
But I have a lot of difficulty with it. So I want to ask others how well
I should expect the speedtouch usb to function under Linux.
The connection dies on high speed transfers. I can surf and chat, but
downloads of large files from fast servers can cause my connection to
die. Is this something others experience as well?
The pppoa connection dies after a few days and does not restart itself.
On rare occasions it is necessary to unplug the modem reload the
firmware, etc. More commonly it is necessary to killall pppd ; pppd call
adsl to restablish the pppoa session.
I am quite close to my ISP's central office and DSLAMs: under 2000 ft. I
do not have an external splitter but use one microfilter inside my house.
What can people tell me about the reliability i am not experiencing
-should I focus on the physical condition of my telephone wires, or is
this a familiar problem with the pppoa software and Alcatel microcode.
Another thing, I do not have any experience with the speedtouch usb
modem under Windows to compare to my Linux experience, so that is a
detail that I cannot provide.
but i'll supply any other information needed to diagnose the problem
thanks
~/j.
