You should expect pretty good reliablilty although a lot of factors depend on your ISP. > The connection dies on high speed transfers. Some people have reported the certain files can kill the connection but It always proved difficult to tie it down. Is it any long file or just dertain ones? There was a small bug in the aal5 code in pppoa3 but I'm not sure how often it triggered. You could always try the latest CVS. We might even get around to releasing 1.1 soon. > The pppoa connection dies after a few days and does not restart itself. > On rare occasions it is necessary to unplug the modem reload the > firmware, etc. More commonly it is necessary to killall pppd ; pppd call > adsl to restablish the pppoa session. pppoa will never restart itself. pppd has to retry (thats part of your peer config file). What has likly happened is your ISP drops your connection and the pppd config file then exits. > I am quite close to my ISP's central office and DSLAMs: under 2000 ft. Its always a possibility. You can look for CRC errors on the line by looking at pppoa3's syslog entries (you may need additionaly verbosity on the pppoa3 command line) > Another thing, I do not have any experience with the speedtouch usb > modem under Windows to compare to my Linux experience, so that is a > detail that I cannot provide. > but i'll supply any other information needed to diagnose the problem > thanks > ~/j. Generally you should expect better than Windows anyway (my windows system never stayed up for more the 4 days). Some people have uptimes in excess of 30 days connection without too many problmes. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.bennee.com/~alex/ Liste de diffusion modem ALCATEL SpeedTouch USB Pour se désinscrire : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=unsubscribe
