Hello David,

Funny things happened. Since the OpenSuSE 10.2 DVD that I got from a
magazine and with which (as said) I could not get the firmware loaded at
boot time or at hotplug, I downloaded an openSuSE 10.2 iso from
http://software.opensuse.org/. That downloaded version was installed on my
laptop, I copied the firmware speedtch-1.bin and speedtch-2.bin in
/lib/firmware and the ADSL line went up!
When looking at the directory tree, I found that in directory

/lib/modules/2.6.18.2-34-default/kernel/drivers/usb the subdirectory atm
is present, where it was not present when I tried the magazine DVD. That
same magazine DVD however, when installed on my desktop, succeeded in
getting the ADSL line up.
As far as I can guess, the magazine DVD, when installed on my laptop, gets
confused a bit.

Ed
