Word for Word Performing Arts Company, the highly acclaimed San Francisco theatre company who brings literature to its feet, is unveiling its next wonder, Angela Carter's short story The Fall River Axe Murders. Angela Carter givers her feminist, eroticized fairytale look at the infamous Lizzie Borden story, illuminating the possibilities of the days leading up to the fateful deed when "Lizzie Borden with an axe gave her mother forty whacks . . ." Fall River runs August 7 to September 7, Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm, with previews Tuesday August 5 and Wednesday August 6 at 8pm. Tickets are $27, $25 for students and seniors. All Wednesdays are Pay-What-You-Can and tickets are first-come, first- served, with no advance reservations, and you can name your own ticket price at the door. Previews are also Pay-What-You-Can, but reservations are taken. All shows at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco, Fort Mason, Bldg D, 3rd Floor.
