"but now that I know where I"m headed, I'll bring up other strategies as I teach. So that when I teach questioning, I naturally end up asking them to infer the answers. Or when we learn about using your schema to connect with books, I bring up visualizing the movie in your head as well. I know better about how to integrate the strategies, so I can teach it that way, but in the beginning I couldn't have done that" Boy, does that speak to my dilemma! I have just spent two weeks being wooed by the book companies as our district feels they must have a core program. Persoanally I have been doing a reading workshop approach for a very long time first in first and now in third. This idea of core curriculum doesn't worry me as I will still consider it material to use but teach with MOT and STW and the things I use to teach reading. But the worry comes for the new teacher or the poorer veterans or the principal/administrator that doesn't understand the progression teachers need to be good teachers. As we teach this way our own learning changes. Peg C.
