Hi all, I am up to Chapter 10 and loving this book. I wish the book chat was more active--but I know we are all trying to eke out the last bit of summer while setting up classrooms for the next year!
One of the things that I really love about this book is the student samples--both in dialogue and in work samples, and the variety of both nonfiction and fiction lessons that address each strategy. Every lesson is bite-sized in that I could easily perform the lesson, stay focused, and still have room in my schedule for independent reading, guided reading, or whatver else I plan to do. This is the first time I have read STW, so I cannot compare it to the first edition, and I would love to hear about the differences from other folks who are reading. Anyone noticing any differences? I do, however, compare it to the toolkit, which I own. What I like about the toolkit is how they take you trhough the lessons word by word (yes--scripted, but not really so since you cannot really have the same thinking as the authors). I like that I can "see and hear" their lessons start to finish in the toolkit. What I love about this book (STW2) is that the lessons are quick snapshots that can be configured to whatever reading, article, etc. that I might like to use. I can see flip through all their lesson ideas quickly and decide what willw ork for me and what I want to do. They still give us great student samples in this book (like in the toolkit), and I am assuming (when I get to the end) they will also be providing excellent guidance on how to fully assess student progress--though each chpater gives a synopsis of what to look for. Anyway--interested to hear from folks who have read the first edition--what do yous ee as differences? :)Bonita _______________________________________________ Stw2chat mailing list Stw2chat@literacyworkshop.org To unsubscribe or modify your membership please go to http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/options/stw2chat_literacyworkshop.org.
