I have used this strategy with questioning, a strategy borrowed from Reciprocal Teaching. Use book jackets, stock pictures or "clean" national geographic types with nice photography, we asked a Who? What? Why? When? And Where? Question about what we notice, they write them down on sticky notes and attach them to the back cover, so when we share out, they hold up the book and can talk about their questions while everyone else can see the cover. I teach 1st grade.

I'm wondering if anyone else has done something like this--any feedback? Thanks, Freida 3rd/GA >From Jane: I did this last year. For example, I found a picture that showed a bike laying on the sidewalk and a child crying. We listed everything we knew from looking at the picture. The bike was on the ground. The child had tears on her face. The child had a skinned knee., etc. Then we listed what we infered had happened. The child was riding her bike. She fell and hurt her knee when she fell.
