Hi Roger,

You would think that the Rothsay Astrophysical Observatory being an observatory
would want to have their sundial on show. The sundial looks good and it has
the equation of time correction built into the dial, pity not to have it on
show.

Thanks Roderick. I checked the link and followed the links to the solar
gnomon at the Rothsay Astrophysical Observatory near Calgary. I didn't observe
anything of interest on this visit.

My visit to the RAO in 2003 was also disappointing . This visit was a
scouting trip for the NASS conference sundial tour and I hoped to include the
equatorial dial designed by Dr. Alan Clark about 30 years ago. They also made a
copy of this equatorial sundial for Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor
Connecticut. See the NASS Registry #211. Here is a link to the photo
www.sundials.org/regphotos/211.htm

The original sundial was out behind the RAO building in 2003, removed from
display due to an encounter with an alien brandishing a light saber. The gnomon
was broken during a school visit and the sundial taken out of service. The
small lobe on the gnomon is missing. Dr Clark was encouraging them to fix the
dial and put it back in service but he has retired and the new director has
other priorities. I do not know the current status of this sundial. There is a
photo of the damaged sundial on my personal website
