Personally, I don't see much of a comparison between Swervedriver and Bailter Space, other than the fact that both have been important bands on the the indie scene over the last ten years or so. As "SciFlyer" pointed out, Bailter Space has been doing their thing a lot longer than Swervedriver has. If I had to pick one, Bailter Space is probably my favorite band right now. I've been listening to them since the release of Robot World (Matador) circa 1992. It took me almost a year before I started to fully appreciate their music. Over the years I've grown to love their style. It's sometimes deep, swirly and hypnotic, somehow soothing. And sometimes it's frantic, crazed, nearly psychotic. But the music is always passionate and heart-felt. It's a three-piece band. They use lots of circular rhythms, and droning chords. They use a fair amount of samples, but their overall sound is still electric-guitar, bass, drums. They know how to rock, and they've been playing together nearly 20 years. I'm not sure if they're still with Flying Nun or not, but I know that here in the states, they're signed with Turnbuckle Records (maybe only for distribution?). I still think Robot World might still be my favorite Bailter Space album, but it's a close call. Everything after Thermos is excellent. Wammo... Vortura... Capsul... they're all great.
