That doesn't mean that they aren't jackasses. ;) Actually, the law may have something to do with it. From what I hear it is hard for a company to protect their rights (copyright, patent, and trademarks) if they let people squat on them. While I don't see how this would be an issue for WriteNow, since nobody is going to be able to compete in the word processing market again. Yet it may be relevant for games, such as the Robot Odyssey I page you pointed to, due to trademarks. > And who makes the law? Folks like you and I, assuming you vote. Nobody lives in a direct democracy, as such we typically vote for politicians based on a bundle of policies. Those policies may not cover particular areas, and I have rarely seen a politician with a working or theoretical knowledge of "intellectual property" issues. Worse yet, politicians have a nasty tendancy of echoing what you want to hear if you talk to them one-on-one. When I tried to ask one about "intellectual property" issues (in the context of university research) without leading her on, she immediately became suspicious. The other one didn't, but what chance does the Green Party have? > But I am well aware that it often takes a Boston Tea Party > (followed by a revolutionary war) to invoke real change. Let's forego the revolutionary war bit, but if you want to have a tea party in Boston, I'll bring the tea. Oh wait. Wrong type of tea party ...
