Creative Upolsterers needed to help with "Desire for the Other" - a sculpture project for the San Jose Museum of Art.
Brian Goggin (the artist who brought you Defenestration) is working on a new sculpture for an Art show at the San Jose Museum of Art with Al Honig, and Tom Kennedy. The show is called "Domestic Odyssey" and will run for four months from March 4th through June 30th. The sculpture is a thirty three foot long articulated couch-like creature consuming other furniture (see photo - attachment).
We have just completed building the framework and are prepairing to upolster the sculpture. At this stage we could use some advice and assistance with the upolstering - which we have one month to complete. If you have upolstering experience and you would consider joining the team please email Brian at: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
There is some money - although they do not know how much yet. Also, all involved will get credit on the wall plaque at the museum and in the catalogue.
Here is a description of the piece Brian wrote for the catalogue:
Its a pandemonical moment, bounding off the floor, an amiable enough, elongated, many legged, yet crapulous couch wraps its craning ends bulbous pillows around an under stuffed rather intellectual reading chair. Not for osculation, but for silencing consumption. An armor of orange upholstery stretches tight, seams strained, over previously pillow-gummed furniture, constrained inside the padded peptic tract but not yet dissolved, a table, a television, a lamp, and a telephone, thrust their extremities out, unlikely tent poles making fabric braille, caught in the couches duodenum. Black belly arching, red legs clambering, it peers your way.
