>From working with the product, I'd say it's platform independent. I do prefer Linux, especially since recent distributions come with MySQL and you can use almost any old box you have lying around. It doesn't get much cheaper than that. But there are versions of MySQL for Windows, so I think you'd be fine either way. The free version of MySQL is called "Community Edition."
