[Tonto] Tonto cannot find serial port

I have a PB G4 with OSX 10.5 and a USB/serial adapter from Keyspan  
which I have used
for other applications.

When Tontp 1.47 tries to access the pronto I get Java exceptions :

while in reality the port does exists:
