by default linux turns off the echo replys. I believe that if you type in echo 0 /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all then it will fix your problem. If you look at the screen while trinux is booting you'll see that it says entering stealth mode. This is where the computer turns echo reply off.
