Many thanks to about 70 people who came to tonight's meeting
at Calvary Church with City Comptroller Jonathan Siedel and Councilwoman
Jannie Blackwell, about proposed changes in the city's tax code, in particular
ideas to move in the direction of more "Land Tax" and less "Property
Tax." A straw vote taken at the end of the meeting showed near
unanimity of support for these tax proposals.
The tax issue -- seemingly a dry, dull subject -- seemed very
lively tonight, and we all hope that City Council will consider the proposals
very seriously. Public hearings, hosted by Councilwoman Blackwell, will
begin shortly ...we hope that everyone will continue to follow the progress of
this bill.
Thanks from all of the members of the University City
Community Council for such a great turnout!
