Cindy and Linda: My response follows yours and I am sending this to various Philadelphia folks for their own direct response to you. The film will premier on PBS during Gay Pride month this June. I had the priviledge of attending an early screening here in NYC; the film is astounding. In an effort to help use the film as a tool to promote activism on economic justice and housing-related issues (particularly among those in the LGBT and African American communities) and provide filmgoers with connections to local community organizations in their communities, Linda is working with PBS and a group called Active Voice to pull together focus groups in a number of cities across the country where the film will also be making a theatrical release. Such a focus group will be taking place in Philly on March 5. If any of you have contacts in the LGBT or African American community in Philly who you think would be interested in seeing this incredibly powerful, well-made film and helping to brainstorm about local connections (LGBT, African American, housing, economic justice/econ development related, etc), Linda would be most appreciative. You can send such suggestions directly to her at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you prefer. Thanks for any help you can give. Cindy __________Cindy and Linda One works with what one has but I trust that you know and that Linda knows that PBS has been bought and sold by corporate amerika - Wouldn't it be nice if they were willing to examine WASP / CAPITALISM's affect on African American and/or gay neighborhoods too! In the meantime, I'd be happy to help your friend. The clear connections and intersections between and among oppressed communities as well as explorations of class and race privilege and power within subject groups should be very interesting. Before you walk into the lion's den here, you might want to look at a narrow analysis of WHYY in 1999 on our web site in part - no attachments. Our coalition EEO litigation against them in the early 90's which failed of course is available. N.B. the causes of such litigation have NOT changed. WHYY has only gotten worse over time. Lots of groups meet at the William Way Center - Call cochair Viriginia there - she is emailed above. Good luck.
