Hello Everyone- Now that spring is here, your thoughts may be turning to some cleaning projects. One of the toughest to deal with is what to do with all that stuff you know shouldn't go down the drain but should also get out of your basement or shed. Well, here's some info to help you and your blocks. The Streets Department runs a program in conjunction with Bucks, Chester, Montgomery and Delaware counties to take care of disposing hazardous household waste in a responsible manner. This is stuff like paint thinner, oil-based paint cans, turpentine, fertilizer, wood stripper, pesticides, etc. Through the spring and summer there are designated sites open on Saturdays throughout the region from 9am-3pm to receive your goodies. Here is the schedule for Philadelphia County for this year: May 11- First District highway yard, 4800 Parkside Ave. Closest one to us. June 8- Northwest Transfer Station on Domino Lane (Roxborough). This is located off Exit 31 of I-76. July 25- This is a Thursday- Streets Dept. Training Center, State Rd. and Ashburner St. 1.3 miles north of Cottman Ave. and south of Linden Ave. October 5- Streets Dept. site at Ridge and Sedgley Ave. October 19- 3033 So. 63rd Street, northwest of Passyunk Ave. Not too far from us. November 2- Streets Dept. facility Delaware Ave. and Wheatsheaf Lane. This is off the Allegheny Ave. exit of I-95 in Bridesburg. For a list of what can be dropped off, contact the Customer Affairs Unit at 215-686-5560. You can also go online at www.phila.gov/streets. Happy cleaning.
