I received a mailing the other day from the Pennsylvania Horticultural
Society about asian longhorned beetles. The short version is that the
NYC area and Chicago have had some infestations, but the beetle is
extremely destructive. In case of infestation, the only thing to do is
to cut down the infected tree and any trees near it. It likes maples,
but goes for most of the trees we have in University City.

I've found a couple URL's with more information and photos of both the
beetles and the damage they do to trees.

Anyway, in the unlikely even you see something like this, they ask
that you immediately call USDA at 215/597-4515 ext 0 or PA Dept of
Agriculture at 717/772-5228.
