Hello Everyone- Well we had fun on 47th Street on Saturday-a beautiful day(albeit a bit chilly), over 150 volunteers and 48 trees planted by noon. Thanks to anyone who turned out- I was abit strectched handling a emergent call for more dirt in a few tree pits so I may not have seen you. I am forwarding on the information about the availibility of trees from Fairmount Park. Please read the guidelines carefully and note the deadline--April 15th. If you have questions I'll do my best to answer them or get information to you. Angie Coghlan

Fairmount Park plants a certain number of street trees throughout the city every year, this fall they are offering 150 to Tree Tenders Groups! This will include the tree, the cutting of the pit and the planting of the tree! Here are the details: 1. The sites have to be identified, and FPC "Street Tree Planting Authorization Forms" sent to me by April 15th. No extensions! 2. The sites then must be approved by your FPC arborist (so please follow the below guidelines when identifying sites). 3. Priority will be given to blocks that request multiple trees (this is far more cost efficient than planting one tree per block). 4. A FPC "Street Tree Planting Authorization Form" must be filled out for EACH tree you are requesting. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT FORMS MUST BE IN MY HANDS BY APRIL 15TH. The trees will be split fairly between interested groups. Please call if you have any questions about how to proceed. BEST OF LUCK, MINDY 988-88444 ________________________________________________________ FAIRMOUNT PARK COMMISSION TREE PLANTING SITE SPECS. * Not in front of steps, doorways or alleyways * 15' from light poles, utility poles and fire hydrants * 20' from street signs and stop signs * 15'-30' from other trees ( depending on mature size and form) * 30' from street corners * 5' from driveways * 5' from manhole covers, storm drains and main utility lines * Edge of tree pit 5' from steps, stoops or walls to allow 5' of unobstructed sidewalk (unless area is covered with tree grate or paving) ________________________________________________________ STREET TREE PLANTING- AUTHORIZATION FORM Date________________ Name _____________________________________________ Address _______________________________________Zip______ FPC District____________ Proposed tree planting site (please describe or draw where, on your sidewalk, you would like the tree to go): I would like the Fairmount Park Commission (FPC) to plant a street tree in front of my property. I agree to the following: 1. An arborist from the FPC must inspect my street and determine whether it is an appropriate and safe location for a tree to be planted. The inspector will determine what species of tree is best suited for my location. 2. My sidewalk may have to be cut to allow the planting of the tree. 3. I will share in the responsibility to care for the tree. This includes watering the tree (15 gallons of water/week for the first two years), avoiding damage to the tree by car or other machinery and notifying the FPC if danger signals such as leaves withering or turning brown are detected. The FPC will provide advice on the care of the tree. 4. Your new tree will be guaranteed for one year. However, it is important that you water the tree in order to improve its chances for survival. ________________________________________________________ STREET TREE PLANTING- AUTHORIZATION FORM (must be filled out and signed by the homeowner) PROPERTY OWNER NAME (PRINT) ____________________________ SIGNATURE OF HOMEOWNER _________________________________ ADDRESS ________________________________________________ CITY ___________________ STATE_________ZIP ___________ TELEPHONE NUMBER_____________________ DATE____________ If you signed for a tree to be planted and the contractor cuts your pavement, you will bear the liability of sidewalk repair if you cancel installation of the tree.--- End Message ---
