FAST FACTS
WHY
Developed by the Sanitation Division to provide citizens with an environmentally safe
alternative for disposing of used trees.
Program in its 15th year
Trees present a significant seasonal addition to the City's waste stream.
Recycling them helps to reduce the number of discarded trees that end up in landfills.
Crews collected and recycled approximately 1.9 million pounds (926 tons) of trees
during the 2002 Program.
WHEN
Monday - January 6, 2003 through Friday - January 17, 2003
Two-week collection program
After January 17, trees will be collected along with rubbish.
HOW
Set trees out on rubbish collection day at your scheduled collection site
Trees with decorations cannot be recycled and will be collected along with rubbish.
Trees should not be set out in plastic bags. The bags cannot be placed in the compactor
along with the tree and vehicles are not equipped with storage space.
Citizens who wish to drop off their tree may take it to one of the following Streets Department
Sanitation Convenience Centers. Vendors are responsible for making arrangements for the
private disposal of their discarded trees.
