All those who recycle at the Firehouse Farmers Market site (50th & Baltimore) can give themselves a big pat on the back. Updated figures for all of 2002 show that tonnages have increased again, up to an average of 6 tons of mixed paper a month, and 1.57 tons of plastic a month. That's up 11% (paper) and up over 27% (plastic) compared to the 12-months ending in mid-last year.
The new owner of the market is a supporter of recycling and I expect the program will continue as is for the future. Next recycling dates: Saturday(s) Aug 2 and Aug 16, and Sept 6 and 20. Watch for a future sign at the site with information about which Saturdays are recycling Saturdays, and which aren't.
