UdmSearch: using $if meta symbol

Greetings.

In the doc file I've read  "You can use
$if(another_template_file_name) meta symbol..."

Can I use absolute path as "$if" argument? When I try to use $if I get
error message that says "Unable to include
'/usr/local/mnogosearch/etc//path/filename'". Why does '/usr/local/mnogosearch/etc/' 
precede the
'/path/filename' I give.
