It may surprise you to learn that we, the Baganda, recall recall our suffering and misery in the 1980s at the hands of that ogre of Uganda politics, Obote. A lot of Kiganda blood was spilled in the battle to free Uganda of Obote and his goons. That experience sensitized us to war and its consquencies.
However people with short memories like you cannot seem to be able to remember, it is these very same Baganda who you and your ilk are fond of disparaging at every opportunity, who incessantly call for an end for an end to this unfortunate war in Northern Uganda. In fact that was gist of my article in the Monitor refuting the writings of of another fellow with your same mindset. I have never been able to understand the insanity of attacking the very people who support you or your position like you people habitually do.
I challenge you list what other ethnic group in Uganda, outside of those being victimized, has shown so much concern about this war publicly.
But let me save you from embarassment by noting that Mu7 is impermeable to persuasion and is totally indefferent to public opinion that is contrary to his self interests. Several cases in point: e.g. land bill that was popularly opposed in all corners of the country, the referendum, etc etc.
If you spent more of your time in analytical pursuits on the situation rather than just sounding off, you might actually convince more people to your viewpoint. After all, 'you catch more flies with honey than vinegar' ...

Also, you state "... BUT are the Ugandan Southerners (you and your fellow Baganda, for example) and westerners anymore interested in the suffering of their countrymen in the north and north-east? No, they are not. If they were, there would not be such a tragedy and genocide anymore. Just look: what proportion of southerners/westerners are in real power now in Uganda, and thus able to influence events in the country?
Anyway, like someone one wrote yesterday in a Ugandan daily, in Uganda what goes around will definitely come around!

We used this very poem during the time when Obote's goons were decimating us in the infamous "Luweero Triangle" in the early 1980s. I thnk it was around the time this monster swore that he would turn the entire District of West Nile into a National Park!
Funny how some things never change!
But who could have imagined that Africans are so very much more cruel than colonialists that we used rile against!!! Man's inhumanity to Man seems to be epitomized amongst Africans.
Fortunately, this time around, there is much more wider knowledge of the tragedy in in Northern Uganda, only the international community does not seem to be terribly interested in our misery.
