There's never enough good restaurants in our neighborhood, and I am happy to hear that Distrito has opened at last.

I hope, though, all the media hype about Distrito -- they've gotten lots of press coverage of late -- doesn't imply that locals have forgotten West Philly's original high-end Mexican eatery, Zocalo, at 36th & Lancaster. If you haven't been there lately, it's worth a re- visit. It's changed hands, and is back to being a chef-owned, family- operated restaurant, with a revised menu that incorporates family recipes from the chef's wife (who's from Merida). Like Distrito, they also offer flights of high-quailty tequilas.

And I'm surprised that none of our conspiracy theorists have wondered about the origin of Distrito's name -- it translates to "District", and they're right around the corner from UCD HQ,

For my birthday gift, my husband and I dined tonight at Chef José Garces new
restaurant "Distrito."

I liked it very much. The plates are small but really flavorful.

Every plate was wonderful. They also have various tequila flights, (three
samples each) for order such as:

Silver, Reposado, Añejo, Highlands, Lowlands and El Camino Royál etc.

Should you come expecting oversized portions such as Chili's, you might be
disappointed.

However, the dishes were tasty, well executed and well presented.

Desserts were also good.

The music, (REAL music), and atmosphere were great as well.

I would recommend neighborhood people eat there and establish themselves
because the GM and owner are very amenable.
