"No accident this aspect of King is squelched while his 'dream' speech is not. And so it goes."
His great work and leadership has been redefined by the powerbrokers with a DAY of middle class charity. This is often done once great revolutionaries are murdered. It's deceptive admiration of the person, but the intention is to destroy the movements and revolutionary course. True compassion, as Dr. King said, is not tossing a few coins to beggars. Once on Christmas day long ago, one of my students and I were giving presents to homeless people, packs of cigarettes. Each person we met had a half dozen, half eaten, turkey dinners surrounding them in the snow. It was one of the best Christmas days i ever experienced, as our gifts were so warmly accepted and sincere thanks was given to us by these unfortunate people. But why were so many turkey dinners dumped on them on this one day? Those who wish to addict and infantilize our people want to reduce Dr King's messages to a single day of tossing coins to beggars. After this day of charity, like dumping turkey on the homeless; we are supposed to listen to Pat Robertson and watch the stocks of war contractors go up, up, up! I hope everyone watched the Democracy Now special. It is one of the few news services that concentrates on telling the truth to citizens!
