International Guitar Night, North America's premier mobile guitar festival, has featured the best performing guitar composers from around the world since 1995. Each tour, IGN founder Brian Gore invites a new cast of guitar luminaries to join him for special evenings of solos, duets and quartets that highlight the virtuosity and diversity within the world of acoustic guitar. Since the beginning, audiences have cherished the friendly informal ambiance of the performances. Participants have relished the chance IGN affords to express reverence for one another, and to collaborate rather than compete. For the January/February 2009 U.S. tour, we welcome: Lulo Reinhardt, a spontaneous and passionate guitarist carrying on the tradition of his great-uncle, the French gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt; Stephen Bennett, a guitarist to hear whether he’s playing his great-grandfather’s harp guitar, slide guitar on a 1930 National Steel, or flatpicking a standard 6-string; and Itamar Erez, an Israeli-born and classically-trained musician and composer known for his explorations of the connections between jazz and Middle Eastern music. Lulo Reinhardt is a spontaneous and passionate musician. A Sinti gypsy and grandnephew of the great French gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, he is an extremely gifted guitarist who began studying with his father at the age of five. At twelve, he played in the Mike Reinhardt Sextett and later co-founded the group, "Django Reinhardt and the Heartbreakers." In 1991, he founded "I Gitanos" with his father Bawo and cousin Dege, touring throughout Europe. He has since played with Toto and Marta Glenn, released several solo CDs, and played at the music festival "Rock gegen Haß" (Rock against Hate), and established an outstanding reputation as a composer and guitarist. Stephen Bennett is a guitarist to hear whether he’s playing his great-grandfather’s harp guitar, slide guitar on a 1930 National Steel, or flatpicking a standard 6-string. On stage and in the recording studio, his diverse musical influences and interests reflect a lifelong love affair with the sound of guitar strings. His enduring repertoire for the harp guitar has sparked international interest in the unique double-neck instrument, and keeps Stephen in demand for concerts and clinics worldwide, while his skills on the 6-string have attracted attention since he won first-place at the 1987 National Flatpicking Championships in Winfield, Kansas. Stephen has released fifteen albums and performed throughout the United States and Europe, as well as in Canada, Australia and Japan. Brian Gore is a melodic fingerstyle guitarist, author, and impresario from San Francisco. He founded International Guitar Night in the 1990’s as a cultural haven for the world’s finest guitarists to share their original ideas in a public setting, and has overseen International Guitar Night’s expansion, as a performer and producer, throughout the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom. Itamar Erez is a classically trained musician and composer whose works have been performed by soloists, ensembles and orchestras in North America, Europe and the Middle East. After studying classical music in Israel, Germany, and the UK, heHe formed the Adama Ensemble with reed player Tony Nickels, bassist Laurence Mollerup, and Stefan Cihelka on tabla to explore the connections between jazz and Middle Eastern music and it is these earthy, ethereal melodies that form the backbone of his solo guitar work. A longtime resident of Vancouver BC, Itamar now has returned to his native Israel while performing with groups around the world. Since October 2007, Itamar has been part of Omar Faruk Tekbilek’s group and is touring with this well-known world music maestro all over the world. Recent shows included London’s Barbican Hall (UK), The Sydney Opera (Australia), as well as shows in Moscow & Seville.
