Start External Program With Mail

This is probably a question for Mozilla developers, but is there any way 
I can run an external program before mail download?

The question came up because I was trying to find a way to run 
MailFilter (a spam filter) when I start to download mail.  SpamSlayer 
is all right, but it doesn't delete spam from the server and doesn't 
link in to the Razor database.

I can see other uses for a facility like this, in running time server 
and datestamping applications, which are not part of Beonex.

If there is no way at present, could Ben look into the possibility of 
providing this facility?
