Question for all: It was my understanding that Richard has already put
vocals down for UNKLE -- is the article wrong?
Verve Singer Ready To Cry
UNKLE
The Verve are still trying to fend off
rumors that they're just about to leave
Virgin Records, and as a show of
good faith they've revealed that they're
already working on their new album --
and have recorded five new songs with
Chris Potter, the genius who was able
to tame these irascible brutes for a
brief shining season and deliver a gem
like Urban Hymns. Breaking from their usual form
of belabored
recording, the band told the BBC that they intend
to have an album
ready for release later this year. In fact, "Mad"
Richard Ashcroft has
been demonstrating his workaholic tendencies, and
has promised --
like Thom Yorke before him -- to provide some
vocals for DJ
Shadow's UNKLE project when he's in San
Francisco, next month, a
work which will also feature a collaboration with
opinionated ex-Stone
Roses' singer Ian Brown, who has confounded
nearly everyone by
garnering widespread acclaim for his homespun
solo disc Unfinished
Monkey Business in the UK. -Jaan Uhelszki
