Many universities are now making their theses and dissertations
available on-line.  Some are cited above from the University of
North Texas (where Lyle Nordstrom teaches).  I also saw some from
a university in Florida.  You can find some by checking the
"Internet Resource" item on the World Catalogue.

Don't forget that if your library subscribes to Dissertation
Abstracts, all UMI dissertations are available for free download.
You can also download them for a fee from ProQuest.  A search
under lute will bring up about 30 dissertations.
