Wellp, I just got back from my *wonderful* trip to North Carolina and Mayberry Days, with a few other side-stops, and let me tell you, it was *big*! It gets better each year, and the people of Mt Airy (plus several thousand or so more visitors) make it so. Something about Smoky Mountain rain that really enhances Mt Airy. Rain or shine, Mayberry Days is always a treat. I met so many wonderful people, some old, some new. One of the great things is that someone is always willing to lend a hand to others, who might need help with something, finding a place, etc.
Allan showed me through the silent auction before taking the stage,
demonstrating his love for meeting people and for the show. As usual, there
was a wide assortment at this year's auction. The meeting was lots of fun, as
well, as always! Hearing of the various worthy causes embraced by various
TAGSRWC chapters and members is truly heartening.
In the new (and quite superb) Andy Griffith Museum, there was a bit of a line
(due to the fire restrictions), but it was well worth it. Let me say that
Karen Knotts was fantastic and a pure pleasure to meet. She took time to talk
with all who came through the line (even allowing for "chit-chat"!).
Speaking of Thelma Lou blowing kisses, I got a giant ("this is big..real big!")
hug from Miss Betty, who took time to talk with me about her family,
Grandfather and some of his doings. She's quite a gal with a great big heart!
And talk about coincidence, back in the hotel that night, I saw Betty in
"Cheaper By The Dozen."
Jamming with some of the other guys who brought their instruments as well was
great. Jeff, I kept missing you, but I did see you from a distance - maybe
we'll get together next year!
I was tempted to return via DeQueen Junction, but was afraid the ol' radiator
might not fare too well. ;-)
Over and Under,
Clyde "Barn"
