Sun Zoom Spark

The information about Lena's ingenious FTP-upload by email script has prompted several enquiries about which webspace providers allow us to install our own cgi scripts. http://www.hypermart.net is used by Lena. Another that I know of is http://http://www.virtualave.net/ I believe there may be others ... I think it is very unlikely that you could signup for these services using ACCMAIL methods. But - if Lena's method works, you would only have to use the WWW once. Lena's script is a significant breakthrough. It means that you would be able to develop real webmaster skills, rather than just HTML authoring. The only free webspace provider that is easy with ACCMAIL methods is InternetTrash, which would be one of the best if it were not for the idiotic domain name. Of course, there are now hundreds of rival webspace providers all over the world - most of them offering a similar service. The interesting ones are those which (a) do not insert ads on your pages, (b) allow CGI scripts. Most are not accessible using ACCMAIL methods, so InternetTrash is the best solution for people who just want a web site, with externally-hosted cgi resources if they need them. Lena's new script should greatly expand the range of providers that you can use - IF you can get to the web occasionally. The providers that allow cgi scripts are the ones I have been aiming at all along. I have looked at both Hypermart and VirtualAve - signup and site maintenance is simple at both of them if you have full WWW and FTP access. But ACCMAIL methods did not work for me. You might have better luck if you have cracked the WWW4Mail servers which handle cookies (I gave up). At the moment, Sun Zoom Spark is over-worked to the verge of insanity. It's better than being unemployed and homeless, which is the only alternative - but it does mean that I do not have time to investigate this new development myself.
