Don't know the answer to your question, and I'd also be interested to 
know more about which access points can repeat which others. I was 
surprised to learn this a while back:

"Repeater access points running Cisco IOS cannot associate to parent 
access points that do not run IOS."

That is what I was afraid of. So, at least with cisco I need to use 
all of the same flavor of AP. I can live with that but I need to 
understand it.
