Welcome to the list!

The selection of text issue you mention is most probably to do with
absolutely positioned items. It does not affect all browsers or all
platforms but it is definitely an issue for Win/IE.

If the content blocks in your proposed new site were to be positioned using
other methods (such as static and float) then you could avoid the problem.
