Hi Chris, Welcome to the list!
The selection of text issue you mention is most probably to do with absolutely positioned items. It does not affect all browsers or all platforms but it is definitely an issue for Win/IE. If the content blocks in your proposed new site were to be positioned using other methods (such as static and float) then you could avoid the problem. If you wanted to look into these other positioning methods, it is worth reading: http://www.positioniseverything.net/articles/flow-pos.html http://www.positioniseverything.net/articles/float-theory.html http://www.positioniseverything.net/articles/towards.html http://css.maxdesign.com.au/floatutorial/index.htm Basically, anything that Big John (author of Position is Everything) has written is worth a read.
