Initial notes:
  1) after defining a new interface, the interface control dialog returns
without the buttons at the bottom. SO apparently, we've still got a buggy
motif implementation in this distro. Closing the window and re-opening it
gives me the buttons again, so I can start the interface.

2) I find the default 'black shadow' station text style unreadable over
the tigermaps, so I attempted to change it to 'text on black', but I found
that this change wouldn't 'take'. I click on the option, but the display
doesn't change, and when I re-open that menu dialog, it's still the 'black
border' option that's checked.
I went on to turn off the 'display WX text' option, which worked. Then
I went back to the station text setting, and now when I clicked on 'text
on black' the display immediately changed as I desired!
So with the station text as I wished, I go back and turn on the WX text.
This appears onscreen as yellow on black, where the callsign is white on
black. Curious, but I can deal.

3) There seem to be some inconsistency in the closing of menus and
sub-menus. Sometimes, when I click on an option in a sub-menu, all of the
menus and submenus disappear. At other times, only the sub-menus
disappear, and the first-level menu remains. I have to click somewhere on
the map, off the menu, to get it to close. At one point, I left this
first-level 'map' menu open, and flipped to the Konsole window to continue
composing this message. To my surprise, the top-level 'map' menu seemed
to have the 'always-on-top' attribute, since it was now blocking my view
of my message text.
